A US-based biker gang has praised murderer Alan 'Cookie' McNamara after he killed a member of a rival Limerick club. McNamara (50), who is aligned with the Caballeros motorcycle club, shot Andrew O'Donoghue in a revenge attack after he was humiliated by the Road Tramps gang in an altercation outside a pub in Doon.
The club posted a photo of McNamara with some words attached online.
He was found guilty of murder at the Central Criminal Court on Monday and will receive a mandatory life sentence in October. The Irish Independent can reveal that violent Texan biker gang the Bandidos, which has worldwide chapters, was backing McNamara while he was up on murder charges and even produced T-shirts in support of him. The club initiated a new chapter in Limerick in October 2016 and has an affiliation with McNamara's Caballeros club.
The club posted a photo of McNamara with some words attached online.
"A tribute to Bandido Cookie who really showed what the patch and colours mean to him, when he took matters in his own hands," it said.

McNamara had insisted the brutal killing on June 20, 2015, was an act of self-defence, of himself and his family, after he was assaulted and threatened by Road Tramps members the previous night.

This was unanimously rejected by the jury's verdict after less than three hours of deliberation. Photos obtained by the Irish Independent show T-shirts that were being worn by Bandidos members, which called for him to be freed after he killed Mr O'Donoghue.

The T-shirts were on show at the initiation ceremony in East Limerick for the first chapter of the Irish Bandidos last October. The Bandido Motorcycle Club is a gang that started in Texas 50 years ago and has a worldwide membership of more than 5,000. The club symbol is a Mexican bandit logo with the motto: 'We are the people your parents warned you about'.
