A POTENTIAL timetable clash between separate trials involving alleged members of the Rebels and Bandidos motorycle gangs has delayed a hearing of charges against the "Yandina Seven”.
Alleged Rebels Joshua Shane Carew, 33, Scott Michael Conley, 40, Eric Ferdinand Felhaber, 53, Paul Jeffery Lansdowne, 59, Patrick Francis Moloney, 62, Steven Michael Smith, 31 and Dan Whale, 29, were charged under the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act (VLAD) for allegedly meeting in a group of more than two in a public place, the Yandina Hotel, in November 2013.
Their matters had previously been pencilled in to be heard in March but that changed after Magistrate Annette Hennessy heard there was an unrelated trial involving four alleged members of the Bandidos scheduled to start in Maroochydore District Court on March 13.
Maroochydore's magistrates and district courts are on different floors of the same building, meaning there was a potential for the two groups to be in the same building at the same time.
That was flagged as a potential security concern.
"It's probably best we avoid that,” Ms Hennessy said.
After discussing the matter further with the lawyers and prosecutor, Ms Hennessy flagged the hearing would likely be set down for April.
But more information was needed before a date could be set so the matters were adjourned for two weeks to allow that to happen.
"I basically want to list it as soon as we can,” Ms Hennessy said.
The charges are next due for mention in the same court on February 23
