Rebels raided, bikie in custody

A SENIOR Rebels Geelong bikie club member is in custody following raids on the Bellarine Peninsula. Detectives from the Echo Task Force pounced on properties on the Bellarine Highway, Leopold, and Murradoc Road, Drysdale, at daybreak on Friday.

They seized a significant number of allegedly stolen motor vehicles, boats and trailers.
Firearms and drugs were also located at the Leopold address.

A 33-year-old Leopold man, who is a member of the Rebels motorcycle gang, has been charged with a raft of offences including trafficking methamphetamine and multiple counts of prohibited person possess firearm, theft, burglary and handle stolen goods.

He has been remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on June 23. The raids form part of an ongoing investigation in relation to members of an outlaw motorcycle gang, police said. The arrest follows a string of raids by the anti-bikie Echo Taskforce.

A high-profile crackdown occurred in Melbourne’s southeast four months ago. Search warrants were executed at industrial-zoned sites in Dandenong South, Beaconsfield, Endeavour Hills and Lyndhurst with four arrests during the October raid.

In a separate November incident, three people were arrested by the Echo Taskforce at Murchison East, near Shepparton, as part of the anti-bikie crackdown. Several similar raids have also been conducted in Melbourne’s northern and western suburbs.
