A high-ranking member of the Finks outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) faced court today charged with affray and using an offensive weapon in the Hunter Region last month.
About 8pm on Friday 9 December 2016, police were called to Thomas Street, Wallsend, following reports a group of men were fighting near the service stations, including one armed with a baseball bat.
A 26-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment. Another man, aged 36, left the location with him.
Police conducted extensive searches for the other men at the time, but no one was located.
Detectives from Newcastle Local Area Command and the Gangs Squad’s Strike Force Raptor commenced an investigation.
Following their inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested at Newcastle Police Station about 10.40am today (Wednesday 11 January 2017).
The man, who is a high-ranking member of the Newcastle chapter of the Finks OMCG, was charged with affray, use offensive weapon with intent to commit serious indictable offence, and custody of offensive implement in a public place.
He was refused bail and appeared at Newcastle Local Court today, where he was formally bail refused to appear at the same court on Monday 23 January 2017.
Strike Force Raptor was established by State Crime Command’s Gangs Squad in 2009. It is a proactive and high-impact operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs and any associated criminal enterprises.
